Share Our Harvest ("Share Our Harvest," "we," "us") operates the Share Our Harvest mobile app, a community where neighbors give and request everyday help. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Account and sign-in. When you create an account we use Auth0 to authenticate you. Depending on how you sign in, we receive:
Profile. A handle (e.g., @riverside_ruth), a display name, and optionally a short bio, a city-level area, one link, and an avatar image. Your display name and avatar may initially come from your sign-in provider; you can change them.
Content you create. Giving posts, requests, offers, comments, and any photos or videos you attach, along with a category and any caption text.
Partner applications and support. If you apply for an organization, we collect its name, description, address, map location, and a private contact method, which may include an email address or phone number. Approved organization locations may be published. If you contact support, we receive your message and the contact details needed to respond.
Location. For a giving post you may share a location. You choose exact or approximate: we receive your chosen location. If you choose approximate, we store only a blurred point (roughly within a kilometer) and never store the precise coordinates. An optional saved "home area" is private, blurred the same way, and never shown publicly.
Device and notifications. If you enable push notifications, a device push token. Optionally, a point and radius you set for "nearby need" alerts.
Usage and logs. Basic technical data such as app version, device type, and event logs needed to operate and secure the service.
If you sign in with your phone number, we send a one-time login code by text. This is transactional messaging tied to your sign-in — not marketing.
To keep the community safe, everything with user-provided text or media — posts, requests, offers, comments, display names, bios, and avatars — is reviewed before it appears. We use automated screening (including Microsoft Azure AI Content Safety) and human admin review of anything flagged.
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the app, under contract and only as needed:
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of our community.
Removing an individual item may hide it while it remains available for moderation. Account deletion is different: use Account → Settings → Delete account to request permanent removal without contacting support.
After confirmation, we close your account and erase your personal profile and authored content from the active database. Uploaded-media and sign-in cleanup starts after 30 minutes so existing upload permissions can expire; it normally completes within 24 hours. You can return to the deletion screen to check progress and receive confirmation. Failed cleanup is retried and is not marked complete until it succeeds.
We remove your stored uploaded media and the Auth0 account used to sign in. Shared organization records and other people's accounts remain. Empty identifiers may remain where shared records require them, without profile or sign-in details. We retain a deletion receipt and a hashed former sign-in identifier to confirm completion and prevent old credentials from recreating the deleted account.
Deleted data may remain in protected backups until those backups expire. Restoring a backup must replay completed deletion requests before the restored system serves users. Existing downloaded copies on other people's devices are outside our control.
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and limit what we collect in the first place.
Share Our Harvest is intended for adults and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.
You can access and update your profile in the app, and request correction or deletion of your information. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (for example, under US state privacy laws); contact us to exercise them.
We may update this policy; we'll change the "Last updated" date and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
